EV incentives by state: 50 states and D.C.

14 of 51 places list an EV purchase or lease incentive that is open or may be open. Every row below has an AFDC link and the date it was checked.

As of Nov 8, 2026, the Alternative Fuels Data Center (AFDC) lists an EV purchase or lease rebate, credit or tax exemption that has not clearly ended for 14 places: CT, ME, MA, RI, NJ, NY, PA, IL, DE, MD, TX, CO, CA, WA. California's are regional air-district rebates, not a statewide program. The other 37 have none listed, and 8 places list a program for a charger at a home. The federal credits are gone, so this is where the money is now (see federal credits).

Source: AFDC State Laws and Incentives, one record per state, read Nov 8, 2026. Conditions (income, price caps, funding) are in the table and on each AFDC record.

Maine and the regional California programs have no single dollar figure here, so they are in the table only.

How this table was built

AFDC publishes a State Laws and Incentives page for every state and D.C. Each state summary was read on Nov 8, 2026, the records tagged for EVs were kept, and the ones about buying or leasing a vehicle and about home chargers were opened. Amounts and dates are the AFDC wording. AFDC says each state list is reviewed in full once a year after the legislative session, and the last review month is in the table. Public, workplace, multifamily and fleet charger funds are counted, not listed.

A state marked "none listed" means no such record was in the AFDC list on Nov 8, 2026. It does not prove the state has nothing, because a local utility or air district may still pay something. For those, look at the utility count and the AFDC page. AFDC is the only source for these rows; where a record is old it says so in the row.

All 50 states and D.C.

Checked Nov 8, 2026. AFDC review is the month AFDC last reviewed that state in full. Utility count is the number of utilities or private entities AFDC lists for the state as offering incentives.

What the open programs have in common

Most of them are rebates paid at the dealer, with a price cap on the car: $50,000 in Connecticut, $55,000 in New Jersey, $80,000 in Illinois. Several add money for lower-income households, and Washington's $9,000 is only for them. Colorado is the one tax credit that steps down year by year: $3,500 in 2025 and $750 in 2026. Funding runs out in some states, so call the program before you sign for a car.

To see what charging at home costs once you own the car, use the home charging cost calculator or read the state-by-state guide. For the gas comparison, the EV vs gas calculator has the weekly EIA price. Charger programs are summarized in home charger incentives, and the date and source of every number on the site are on the data page.

This is a listing of what AFDC publishes, not tax or financial advice. Confirm eligibility with the program before you buy.
